25 Outfit Ideas for the Hourglass Body Shape.
The curvy hourglass body shape is usually not represented in today's skinny model world. But that's their loss. This hourglass body shape is one of the most frequent ones, but also the hardest to dress because of a lack of options when it comes to brand representation.
This changes with today's blog post and capsule video.
First, we will try to understand how to turn your beautiful curves into a stylistic advantage. The methods and principles described here are just a taste of what you can learn once you take The Body Harmony Class.
The Hourglass Figure and its Advantages.
First, we will try to understand how to turn the beautiful curves of the hourglass figure into a stylistic advantage. The methods and principles described here are just a taste of what you can learn once you take the Wonder Wardrobe Course.
In this short post and video, I'll show you how to create the best proportions for the hourglass body shape, what clothes to choose, which ones to avoid, and how to use color wisely so that your hourglass figure works to its full advantage.
I've studied how every classical body shape can be dressed for over 11 years now. Your personal measurements go beyond a defined waist or that of the hourglass body type.
Your hourglass figure has its own unique set of proportions that you should take into account.
Struggling to find the right fit and style?
You're not alone. And there's a solution!
The most flattering fit for the Hourglass Body Shape.
If you want to find the most flattering fit and the cuts that suit you the best, such as form-fitting garments or items that define your waist, for example, The Body Harmony Class is something I would advise taking.
For now, I will show you how an hourglass body shape woman should dress so that her body, curves, height, and general body shapes are best represented by the way an outfit gets out together.
All the items I've used for these outfits come from sustainable brands, go well together and form a fully interchangeable wardrobe. This will help you create at least 25 interchangeable outfits, using only 6 tops, 4 bottoms, and 1 dress.
Hourglass Body Shape Proportions Analysis.
The hourglass body shape is one of the most proportionate body shapes no matter what size you're wearing. Your hourglass figure's hips and shoulders are about the same width. Your hourglass waistline shape is very well defined, as well as your bust shape. You have lots of beautiful curvy lines and shapes that help your hourglass figure appear very feminine and delicate.
Remember: your clothes should complement your hourglass body shape and be in harmony with your hourglass figure. This means they should also have rounded, soft shapes, cuts, and patterns and soft to medium soft fabrics.
Your best outfits are those that accentuate your waistline and balance your hips and shoulders in case they look a little heavy. You achieve that with the help of color and vertical lines. I will show you how to do it a little later. First, let's discuss what items will fit your body type best.
Tops for the Hourglass Body Shape.
For tops, I would suggest choosing form-fitting, straight, or wrap cuts. The round neckline looks elegant on your body, a little V-neck is a little more playful while a wide, round one is more casual.
Soft and medium-soft fabrics are your best friends. So, try to choose fabrics like lyocell, linen, medium-thick silk, organic cotton, soft and thin wool, soft denim or velvet. They will give you enough support but also drape nicely around your body.
Bottoms for the Hourglass Body Shape.
If your bottoms are high or medium-waisted it's better to tuck your top in, if possible. It will help accentuate your waistline and elongate your legs making your hourglass figure looked well defined. But if you feel uncomfortable tucking in your tops, it's not a problem.
Just make sure your tops are not longer than your middle hip line. Otherwise, your legs will look shorter than they actually are making your hourglass body shape look disharmonious.
Skirts for the Hourglass Body Shape.
The best cuts for your skirts are tight and straight pencil skirts, flare design, goared, and wraparound. Your skirt should be high waisted or have a medium-high waistline and be 2 centimeters above the knee, or knee-length, midi or maxi.
This stylistic detail will add more harmony to your hourglass body shape.
Pants for the Hourglass Body Shape.
The best cuts for your pants are cropped slim-fitted, cropped straight, straight and long, culottes, soft palazzo and boot cut for jeans. Your pants should be either high waisted or have a medium-high waist so that your hips and thighs look in harmony with the rest of your hourglass body shape.
Dresses for the Hourglass Body Shape.
The most flattering dresses for the hourglass body shape are those that define your waist, or the ones that have a close-fitted shape or straight cut wrap dresses. The only 2 types of dresses I would suggest avoiding are the ones that have very high empire waist or very low waistlines.
An empire waist dress will make your torso look shorter and wider, while the low waist design will make your legs look shorter. You should avoid these if you have an hourglass figure.
Jackets and Coats for the Hourglass Body Shape.
Using jackets, cardigans, and coats in your outfit can help you visually elongate the silhouette of your hourglass body shape. Your jackets and blazers should also have a soft shape and fabric. The best ones are slim-fitted and have two buttons.
Go for the ones that aren't longer than your middle-hip line as they will look the best on your hourglass figure.
If you prefer cardigans, I would advise choosing either short ones or very long ones. Whatever in between might change the proportions of your hourglass body shape. I've also noticed that coats that have round shoulder lines look very flattering on any hourglass shape.
As for the cut, go for the wrap style, trench, straight or slim-fitted coats to create beautiful and long silhouettes for your hourglass figure.
Capsule Wardrobe for The Hourglass Body Type.
Now you should have a better idea of what items, cuts, shapes, style, and fabrics to choose from to achieve the most flattering outfits for your hourglass shape. Let me show you a Wonder Wardrobe so you can see how all of this works in reality.
This capsule wardrobe allows you to create at least 25 interchangeable outfits for the hourglass shape, using only 6 tops, 2 skirts, 1 pair of trousers, 1 pair of jeans, and 1 dress. I also added 2 jackets, 2 pairs of shoes, and 1 bag that go perfectly with everything else. Any outfit can be worn with or without jackets.
The fashion style for this hourglass shape capsule is a classic one with some dramatic elements.
Color Palette Example for the Hourglass Shape
The color palette includes some neutral and bright colors that will help me create beautiful contrasting combinations.
As you can see, I used 2 types of color combinations: dark with dark and contrasting. Contrasting combinations help to balance the bust and hip area and make it look equal and harmonious for the hourglass shape.
This will also help to accentuate your waist. Combinations of dark colors help to elongate and slightly slim the silhouette making the hourglass shape even more flattering.
I paired the cardigan and the jacket with both types of outfits to create vertical lines that also visually help to balance and elongate the silhouette.
This trick works best if you tuck your tops in, so your waistline is more obvious and your legs will appear to be longer.
The color of your jacket or cardigan is also important. It's better if it's one solid color and it is in contrast with your outfit or matches the color of your bottom.
Please, note that all these items have a soft shoulder line, rounded shape, and medium-thick fabrics that create a perfect harmony with your natural, curvy, hourglass body shape.
